EMERGE125 Brings Modern Dance from NYC to Alaska

group of people pose with arms out in the middle of a street in rural alaska

The touring dance group Emerge125 and their support staff pose with volunteers from Petersburg Arts Council and Mitkof Dance Troupe in downtown Petersburg, where no traffic had to be stopped in order to take this shot in the middle of the street at 6 pm.

Dance Dance Dance!

Petersburg Arts Council and Mitkof Dance Troupe partnered to bring Emerge125 to Petersburg as part of the dance group’s 10 city tour through Alaska in November, 2024.

Audiences enjoyed a taste of New York City modern dance as the troupe performed several stunning and diverse pieces choreographed by acclaimed director Tiffany Rea-Fisher. The dancers answered audience questions after the show, with local dance students getting to ask about how to become a professional dancer and what that life style is like.

Petersburg Arts Council thanks TourWest and Petersburg Community Foundation for grant funding to sponsor this show, Mitkof Dance Troupe for generously co-sponsoring to cover the costs of lodging and artist fee, Anchor Properties for hosting a potluck with the dancers, Petersburg Pilot and KFSK for producing local news about the event, and many others.
